Audiences: General

20 My son, be attentive to my words;    incline your ear to my sayings.21 Let them not escape from your sight;    keep them within your heart.22 For they are life to those who find them,    and healing to all their flesh.23 Keep your heart with all vigilance,    for from it flow the springs of life.24 Put away from you crooked speech,    and put devious talk far from you.25 Let your eyes look directly forward,    and your gaze be straight before you.26 Ponder the path of your feet;    then all your ways will be sure.27 Do not swerve to the right or to the left;    turn your foot away from evil.

Discussion Questions

  • It was remarked in the sermon that “The harsh reality is that brokenness and corruption exist inside of every person (including me)”. Take a moment and personally reflect on your life. What areas of brokenness has God worked on? What areas of brokenness does he still need to work on?

  • Read Proverbs 4:23 and Luke 6:43-45

Based on these passages, what effect does our heart have on the rest of our life? If our heart is naturally corrupt (Jeremiah 17:9) then how does it get better?

  • Read Proverbs 4:22

How is the wisdom of God “healing” to our flesh? Reading Proverbs 4:20-21 and Proverbs 24-27. Based on those passages, what actions can we take to “guard” our heart with diligence?
