Personal and Family Information:
I have been married for 12 years to my best friend: my beautiful wife Alyson. We have 4 wonderful children who always keep our lives moving and exciting. Some quirky facts: As a kid I was the biggest pro-wrestling fan that you could possibly meet. Today I hardly watch TV, but if I have the remote it will be ‘Man vs Food’ or an interesting documentary. I am fascinated by John F Kennedy and the Apollo Space Program and will read or watch anything I can find on those subjects. I love to travel and stay in hotels, though I am not fond of planes. Disney World is just about my favorite location on the planet.
My life is a testimony that God never gives up on anyone, and that we are not powerful enough to ruin His plans for our lives. I was saved at the age of 7, and I always said I was going to be a pastor someday. But as a teenager and young adult I did more to please myself than I did God. Unfortunately, God became the person I turned to in trouble, and turned away from when everything was going good. Yet, in my early-20’s I began to feel great conviction about my walk with God. I wanted to be close to Him, just like I was as a child. As I began to pursue Him once again, I felt the call to pastor – something I had not felt in over 15 years. I thought it was too late, and that God had long since given up on me. I was wrong. I will not pretend it was easy; I had a lot of hurts and a lot of doubts that God had to heal. But day by day, He restored me. And I again began to embrace His call. Today I am grateful, and often bewildered, at His goodness and His grace. He has granted me so many wonderful opportunities to serve and to teach, none of which I deserve. His power and His plans were much greater than my mistakes and my sin. I write this to say that I am nothing apart from Him, except a guy who could never get it right no matter how hard he seemed to try. And I write this to encourage anyone reading: you are never in a place too far away for God to reach. His plans for you are more powerful than anything you have done. With God, your past has no control over your future. Turn to Him fully, and be amazed at His Grace.
What is one thing that grabs you about each of your kids?
They are all cute! They get it from their mom…
What is your passion in ministry?
I have a deep desire and passion to teach God’s word and to see people’s lives transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I absolutely love to pastor; there is nothing else I would rather do with my life. Beyond that, I will quote AW Tozer: ‘There are rare Christians whose very presence incites others to be better Christians. I want to be that rare Christian.”
What is your favorite thing about being a husband?
Being married to my best friend and to someone who cherishes Jesus with her whole heart. I am constantly amazed at everything she does for our family and her willingness to follow Christ, even when He has asked us to make drastic lifestyle changes. Her heart for Christ is her greatest quality and I am honored to be her husband.
What is your favorite thing about being a dad?
I love absolutely EVERYTHING about being a dad. In this season of life it is wrestling, family game nights, root beer and movies, taking walks to ‘look for the moon’ and camp outs on the couch. What an honor to see my kids grow in their knowledge of God! There is nothing that I do not love about being a dad.
What is your favorite date night activities?
Alyson and I hitting one of our favorite local restaurants, like La Paz or Outback and then just talking. We will camp out at a table and just enjoy being by ourselves. A late night trip to Starbucks is usually part of the itinerary as well.
What are your hobbies?
As a kid I raced BMX bikes, was heavily involved in Boy Scouts and spent a lot of time camping with my daddy. Today my idea of the perfect way to spend free time would be taking a hike in the outdoors to commune with my savior, playing with my family or hanging out with friends. I do plan to get my family into camping as soon as the kids are old enough to really enjoy it.
What is your favorite restaurant and why?
Mcguire’s in Pensacola Florida. If we are within a 2 hour drive, I’m going. One of the best steaks that you will ever have. My tip: skip the salad and go for Senate Bean soup.
Favorite chapter in the Bible?
Isaiah 60. I consider the first four verses to be my life and ministry passages.
You are given $1000 on the condition that you MUST spend it on yourself – what do you buy?
I would take my family on a (extra long) weekend vacation. I love to travel and I love to travel.
Same question but $100,000 – what do you buy?
A house; then try to spend the rest of my life debt free.
